After falling behind 7-6 in the first set, Washington State controlled the rest of the match, only trailing the Beavers for two points in the Cougar’s 3-0 win Thursday night at Gill Coliseum. 

Led by top setter Argentina Ung, the Cougars stormed to their 12th straight victory with a record of 13-1 on the season. 

Beavers star outside hitter Mychael Vernon struggled in the game, hitting a season-worst -.100. The Cougars, who are known for their big front 3 are the seventh-ranked defensive team in the nation 

Leading the front row, Magda Jehlárová led the team in kills with 10, and showcased her elite-level hitting percentage, mashing .643. 

Multiple times Jehlárová hit her signature slide which resulted in three kills for the fifth-year middle blocker from the Czech Republic.

The Beavers lost their tenth straight game versus these Cougs and their sixth straight loss of the season.

Junior opposite and setter Amanda Burns, poured in a team-high eight kills while also adding five assists and four blocks.

Ava Pitchford added 16 assists for the Beavers which is a season high for her.

After the game ended the two teams got together to take a “PAC-2” picture, as the universities are the remains of the PAC-12 for next season.

The Cougar’s next game is down south in Eugene, facing the #6 ranked Ducks (12-1, 2-0) on Sunday and looking for one more win on their three-game road trip.

The Beavers will stay in town for their next game, against the Washington Huskies (9-4, 0-2) who are currently on a two-game losing skid. The game will be played at noon on Sunday, October 1 at Gill Coliseum.
