Oregon State University baseball fans may have noticed some atypical equipment carried around by the team this season: an instant camera.
“Every time we hit a homer, we’re taking a Polaroid,” senior catcher Wilson Weber said. “That’s the offensive (team’s) thing.”
Weber first considered taking pictures at games after a fan suggested the concept to him. After proposing the idea to some of his teammates and receiving support from them, he bought the camera and started bringing it to games.
The pictures taken end up posted on a bulletin board in the OSU hitting facility. Some of them show a batter swinging, others a post-game celebration and others show various different scenes playing out.
“Someone grabs it at some point,” Weber said. “So it’s a bunch of different random moments, sometimes it’s just getting in the dugout, sometimes it’s afterwards, there’s a couple guys eating pizza like an hour later, like if someone forgot to grab the camera.”
Among the pictures is one of outfielder Gavin Turley with his arms crossed, taken after his 46th career home run, Oregon State’s all-time record. Turley surpassed Travis Bazzana’s record on April 19 and is commemorated on the photo board with a note indicating the record.

The pictures in the hitting facility date back to February 14, the team’s first preseason game of the year. The team writes the date, the hit’s exit velocity and how many homers the player has hit this season on the photos.
The Beavers await their postseason aspirations until May 26 for the selection show. This will determine whether they host a regional or if they will be traveling for the first round of the NCAA tournament to make it to Omaha. The first round will begin on May 30.
