The Associated Students of Oregon State University Senate met Oct. 1 over Zoom to continue the process of confirming nominees for Executive Staff positions. ASOSU Senate President Pro Tempore Dawson Yang also acknowledged the lifting of the ASOSU shutdown during the meeting.
The first confirmation was Franklin Weeks as Graphics Design Coordinator.
According to a directive written by former President Kayla Ramirez that was attached to the meeting’s agenda, “Franklin’s approach to design centers on an understanding of how art can be utilized to impact community engagement. Their prior experience designing materials for the Basic Needs Center has prepared them effectively to build community knowledge and support the advancement of the ASOSU mission in an accessible manner.”
Efmiya Kuzmin will serve as the next ASOSU Policy Director.
According to a directive written by Provisional ASOSU President Masha Mogylevsky, Kuzmin was nominated for the position by the Policy Appointments Committee.
“In addition to the (Policy Appointments Committee’s) nomination, I can attest to Mya’s extensive experience as a policy advocate and champion for students,” the directive read. “Mya has served three prior years on the ASOSU Executive Branch Policy Team, overseeing significant accomplishments.”
As Kuzimin was a member of the ASOSU Senate at the time of her nomination, she officially stepped down as a Senator to start her new position.
According to an email from Mogylevsky, this means there is now a Graduate Senate seat and an Under graduate Seante seat open. The forms for application to the seats can be found here.
The position of Basic Needs Policy Coordinator will be filled by Emily Dorn.
Dorn was also nominated by the Policy Appointments Committee, according to Mogylevsky’s directive.
“In addition to the committee’s nomination, (Mogylevsky has) reviewed Emily’s applicant materials and can testify to their strong qualifications for the position,” the directive read.
Salem Solomon was scheduled to be confirmed as Accessibility and Health Coordinator, but, as their information was not given and they were not in attendance, a motion passed to table the confirmation until a later meeting.
Lampros Sioutas was confirmed as Student Fee Committee Liaison.
“Lampros comes duly nominated by the ASOSU Student Advisory Board, on which he also served last year,” Mogylevsky’s directive on Sioutas read.
Furthermore, in news committee news, Senator Hannah Barger was elected Vice Chair of the Outreach Committee.
Barger said they are looking to build up first-year leadership at OSU, to prime younger students for positions at OSU.
Yang said the Senate had locked in a new time to meet: every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., though Yang admitted the time was “not optimal” as it conflicts with some schedules.
