Things to know for this year’s Turkey Trot

The Corvallis Turkey Trot will have runners racing through Crystal Lake Sports Fields and Willamette Park on Thanksgiving morning.

According to a Corvallis Parks and Recreation announcement, the event will have three different races, all starting at Crystal Lake Sports Field at 100 SE Fischer Ln. The day will start with a 10k run at 8:10 a.m., followed by a 5k run at 8:25 a.m. and finishing with the Little Gobblers 1k run which begins at 9:15 a.m.

The cost to register for the 5k or 10k is $50, while registering for the Little Gobblers 1k costs $18. Registration is available on the Corvallis Parks and Recreation websiteTerri Fackvell, Recreation and Community Services Supervisor for Corvallis Parks and Recreation, said the Turkey Trot benefits the Parks and Recreation events program and scholarship program.

T-shirts are available with registration, but the website noted that they have a limited number of shirts available in each size and recommended picking up race packets, which will include t-shirts, early. Runners can pick up their packets from the Corvallis Community Center at 2601 NW Tyler St. on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or the morning of the race from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., according to the event scheduling page.

Prizes will be given out for first and second place runners, according to Fackvell, and every kid in the Little Gobblers 1k run will get a prize bag.  She added that refreshments, including coffee and baked goods from local bakeries will be provided.

Fackvell said that the event is open to the whole family including those in strollers and leashed dogs. She also noted that participants can make it fun and are welcome to dress up for the occasion.

Anyone who wants to enjoy the fun of the Turkey trot without running can volunteer by navigating to the Parks and Recreation website and signing up to help with water stations, parking or monitoring the course.
