The Oregon State softball team suffered a 1-0 loss to the No. 5 University of Washington Huskies in the quarterfinals of the inaugural PAC-12 Softball Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

The last appearance between these teams saw Oregon State beating the Huskies in a dominant 11-1 victory at Kelly Field on April 16.

Early in the first inning it was a pitchers’ duel as both teams left runners in scoring position. After, the top of the second inning concluded senior outfielder Jadelyn Allchin broke open the game with a solo home run to give the huskies an early 1-0 lead.

Allchin’s home run would be the only score in this game as no other runs were scored in the game. The Huskies held onto their 1-0 lead throughout the rest of the game as the Beavers were only able to earn three hits throughout the game.

For the Beavers, sophomore pitcher Ellie Garcia took the loss and her record falls to (6-9) for the 2023 season. Garcia pitched 3.1 innings before being replaced by senior pitcher Tarni Stepto, who entered the circle in the fourth inning and pitched 2.2 innings.

Washington pitcher Ruby Meylan took the win for the Huskies and her record improves to (16-5) on the season. Meylan pitched 7.0 innings and only gave up three hits in the win for the Huskies.

The end of the season for the Beavers likely marks the last game that both Stepto and senior infielder Frankie Hammoude will play in a Beaver uniform. Hammoude leaves the Beaver Softball program as the all-time home run leader with 53 career home runs.

With the loss the Beavers season comes to an end and Beaver Softball finishes their 2023 season with a 15-29-1 record and a 6-17-1 PAC-12 Conference record.
