Oregon State wrestler Travis Wittlake Jr. was critically injured while working underneath his Dodge pickup truck on Jan 7.
The accident occurred while Wittlake Jr. was trying to take a lift off his truck and the jack that the truck was resting on gave way, subsequently crushing his leg and body underneath the truck.
Wittlake Jr. sustained multiple compound fractures including fractures to his leg as well as compression fractures in his back. His injuries were not life-threatening but he will have a long road to recovery.
He was airlifted to Salem Hospital where the trauma team helped to repair the injuries to both his leg and back.
“We are grateful for the care that Travis has received so far and will be here to support him during his recovery. On behalf of Travis, his family, and our athletic department, we appreciate the support and well wishes from Beaver Nation and the wrestling community, we wish Travis a speedy recovery,” Oregon State head wrestling coach Chris Pendleton said in a team-issued statement.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help support Wittlake Jr. and his family to cover the costs of the airlift flight, surgery, and rehabilitation.
Another way to help support is by purchasing a ‘Travis Strong’ shirt from an Oregon State fan account @TheDigitalDam on X (formerly known as Twitter) and on his website at thedigitaldam.com. All profits from the shirt go directly to the GoFundMe set up for Wittlake Jr.
As of Jan. 11, the GoFundMe has raised $83,983 out of the $100,000 goal.
