The Beavers broke any doubters’ opinions this weekend with an electric 4-0 start to open the 2024 season in Surprise, Arizona.
The squad proved why they are the No. 7 team in the nation, slashing a total of 14 home runs and 47 hits in a four-game span.
If you talk about Beaver Baseball, you have to talk about the projected top-three pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Travis Bazzana. The Australia native went 9-16 on the weekend and proved his power at the plate with three home runs while driving in seven runs. This effort would earn him Perfect Game Co-National and PAC-12 Player of the Week.
This isn’t a one-man team; centerfielder Micah McDowell put together a solid opening weekend going 7-13 with three RBIs.
Aidan May’s highly anticipated Beaver debut was nothing short of dominant and proved why he toes the slab as the Friday night starter for this ball club. May went 5.1 innings only giving up one run on four hits, two walks, and four punch-outs.
The pitching staff looks much to be improved from last year and could be the last remaining piece the Beavers need to make their push toward Omaha.
After May left the bump the bullpen and the rest of the weekend rotation put together solid outings to help their team to a 4-0 start.
Freshman, Eric Segura tossed five innings against CSU Bakersfield, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out four batters. Transfer, Bridger Holmes picked up the win after coming in for Segura and gave the Beavers three innings of no-run baseball.
A glimpse into the road to Omaha arrives this weekend in Arlington, Texas at Globe Life Field. The Beavers are set to participate in the Kubota College Baseball Series where they will compete against notable No. 19 Texas Tech on Feb. 21 and No. 2 Arkansas on Feb. 23.
All games will be available to listen to on the Varsity Radio Network and watchable on FloBaseball.
