The Oregon State men’s soccer coaching vacancy will be filled from within.
The former assistant coach, Jarred Brookins, was named the new head coach on Thursday morning.
Brookins, who joined the program in 2023, spent two seasons as an assistant coach to the recently departed Greg Dalby, and followed Dalby from Davidson, where the two worked together prior to joining Beaver Nation.
Scott Barnes, Vice President and Director of Athletics, announced the news in a press release, saying, “We are excited to have Jarred take the helm as head coach of the program.”
Brookins, formerly an assistant coach with Davidson and Mercer, takes the helm for the Beavers with a reputation for player development and success, being named to the Southern Conference Coaching Staff of the Year in 2018 while with Mercer.
Despite his five successful seasons with Davidson and Mercer, as well as his two in Corvallis, this will be the first head coach role for Brookins, a role that has potentially been overdue with such an impressive track record as an assistant coach.
Brookins’ player development history is noteworthy, as he has coached several MLS Superdraft picks, including recently drafted OSU players Enzo Newman, Sergi Solans, and Arnau Farnos.
“His focus on player development and team culture along with his experience and coaching ability will put the program in position for continued growth moving forward,” Barnes said in the press release.
The Beavers are now in somewhat of a developing state coming into 2025, after losing a majority of the starting lineup from 2024 to either graduating, transferring, or being drafted by MLS clubs.
Stars from last season like Solans, Farnos, and Newman have all moved on, leaving major holes to fill for the Beavers.
Holes they are likely to fill from within, with Brookins and his emphasis on development at the epicenter of the upcoming season narrative.
Despite the challenges facing the Beavers in 2025, Brookins is confident that progress will continue, saying, “I am very proud of the work we have done over the last two years, and I am excited to build on that success in the years to come.”
