The Centro Cultural Cesar Chavez will be hosting a crafternoon event on Thursday at the Valley Library 4-6 p.m.
The Valley Library and the CCCC have come together to host an event for students at Oregon State University that offers an opportunity to unwind and learn a new skill while bonding with friends or making new ones.
During CCCC tribute month, an opportunity for collaboration presented itself learning to cross-stitch.
The library staff have tried to expand their crafternoon events to other clubs and organizations on campus in an effort to promote collaboration and bring students together to learn something new.
Amanda Puitiza, a community relations representative for the Centro Cultural Cesar Chavez, said the idea was started by library staff.
“They reached out to us a while ago about collaborating and I thought it would be nice to make the collaboration a part of our tribute month events,” Puitiza said.
With the spring term off to a rainy start, students at OSU may still be finding ways to stay involved and engaged as the waiting game for the sun continues before outdoor activities can be fully enjoyed.
According to Puitiza, this event was given extra care when thinking about how to keep students engaged while also trying to find a way to relax while learning a new skill.
“I chose to teach cross-stitching because it is something easy to pick up and you can create a piece very quickly,” Puitiza said. “I hope that anyone who stops by can take with them some materials and patterns and a new crafting skill.”
Puitiza also hopes that students will take material home with them so that they continue to practice and create new designs that they can then share with their friends and loved ones.
The event will go with the CCCC tribute month theme Bajo La Misma Luna (under the same moon).
