Corvallis residents will take to the streets this Saturday to protest the actions of Donald Trump and Elon Musk, as part of the nationwide “Hands Off!” protest.
The event will be held at the Benton County Courthouse from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The protest is in response to federal budget cuts and other moves made by the Trump administration and the Musk-run Department of Government Efficiency.
“Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them. We are fighting back!,” the event flyer said. “They’re taking everything they can get their hands on—our health care, our data, our jobs, our services—and daring the world to stop them.”
Trump recently implemented tariffs, or taxes on imported goods, against many of its trading partners, compounding nationwide concerns about inflation. DOGE has also stirred controversy by initiating sweeping layoffs in federally funded departments related to education, health, cybersecurity and social security.
“This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies,” the flyer read.
The Corvallis demonstration was organized by various local advocacy group branches, including Indivisible, Third Act, Heart of the Valley Women’s March and Our Revolution Corvallis Allies.
An email from an HVWM organizer said over 1,000 people are expected to attend. In a separate email, an Indivisible organizer said politicians are expected to attend and speak at the event, including Senator Sara Gelser Blouin, Representative Sarah Finger-McDonald and Mayor Charles Maughan.
“Hands Off!” Protests are also being held in nearby cities like Albany, Salem, Eugene and Portland. More information can be found on the Hands Off! Website.
