Best Bars
May 20, 2016
Impulse, Clodfelter’s Public House, Downward Dog Pub and Grub and the Peacock Bar and Grill were all voted by students as four of the best bars in Corvallis.
According to Daniel Lovato, the Director of Operations at Impulse in addition to Sancho’s and The Still nightclub in Albany, while Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest in terms of volume and sales at Impulse, the club has also been known to go up on Tuesday nights.
Beer is sold more than any other alcoholic beverage, Lovato said, but vodka-Red Bulls and whiskey drinks are still a popular choice amongst the student clientele.
Even though it can be competitive between the few bars in the Corvallis area, Lovato likes seeing new bars and clubs open for business and contribute to Corvallis’ nightlife.
“We have a good nightlife compared to other cities, I’d say. Corvallis is pretty happening,” Lovato said. Just a block away from Impulse, one can find Clodfelter’s Public House, more commonly known as Clod’s amongst OSU students and Corvallis community members, on Monroe boulevard.
According to Ashley Ferns, a senior music major and server at Clod’s, Pint Nights and the twice-weekly happy hour are some of the more popular nights for students to visit the pub.
“We’re really humbled by the students’ vote, we just like being here,” Ferns said
Formerly known at the Red Fox, the Downward Dog Pub and Grub on Monroe boulevard, also made the list of Corvallis’ best bar.
The two most popular drinks at Downward Dog, according to General Manager Ryan Anderson are the rum punch and summer breeze. The rum punch features the bar’s peach-infused house rum and the summer breeze is described by Anderson as a “boozed-up strawberry lemonade.”
Anderson believes that the success of Downward Dog comes from the support of the students.
“It’s all about the students here as far as our success goes,” Anderson said, “We provide good drinks, good food and good prices, the rest is all them.
Located in downtown Corvallis, the Peacock Bar and Grill was also voted as one of Corvallis’ best bars. The Peacock serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in addition to the bar service. The Peacock is also home to Western Wednesday and Thursday.
The Peacock’s manager was not available for comment.
