Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave drafted by the Green Bay Packers
April 29, 2023
Former Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave is headed to Green Bay after the Packers selected him with the No. 42 overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft on Friday.
The 6’6, 249 pound tight end and Bend, Oregon Native is the earliest pick by an Oregon State player since the 2014 NFL Draft, when former wide receiver Brandin Cooks was drafted by the New Orleans Saints at pick No. 20.
Musgrave is the second Oregon State tight end to be selected in back-to-back drafts. Last year, the Houston Texans selected former Oregon State tight end Teagan Quitoriano, Musgrave’s former teammate, with the 170th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
With the selection in the second round, Musgrave is the highest drafted tight end in Oregon State history. Former Oregon State tight end Tim Euhus, who was drafted in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, was previously the highest drafted OSU tight end drafted by an NFL team.
Musgrave was the fourth tight end taken in this year’s NFL Draft and is the ninth Oregon State player drafted by the Packers. Musgrave is also the seventh Beaver drafted since Jonathan Smith became head coach in 2018.
Musgrave only played two games during the 2022 season, as he sustained a season ending knee injury against Fresno State. In those two games, Musgrave caught 11 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
During his four-year career for the Beavers, Musgrave played in 34 games, catching 47 passes for 633 yards and two touchdowns. Musgrave also was impactful on special teams as well as on the offensive side of the ball. In the 2021 season, Musgrave blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown in a 42-34 win over Utah in Reser Stadium.
