When Oregon State and San Jose State take the field on Saturday, it will be a pivotal moment for the Beavers. With a win, the Beavers will only need one more win to become bowl-eligible.
The Beavers will kick off against the Spartans at Reser Stadium on Saturday at 12:30 pm.
If the Beavers lose, they will not only fall to 4-5, but will need to beat Air Force and then either No. 20 Washington State or No. 12 Boise State to qualify for a bowl game.
Women’s rower Giulia Clerici will be honored at the game for earning a silver medal at the U23 World Championships.
The Beavers enter Saturday’s tilt at 4-4, coming off three straight losses. The Spartans’ last game was a 33-10 loss to Fresno State.
Oregon State’s players are not worried about the losing streak.
“We’re still on the same page. We’re 0-0 right now. This is the last four games of the season, and that’s all we’re worried about,” linebacker Isaiah Chisom said of the Beavers’ three-game slide.
Playing in Corvallis is likely a benefit for the Beavers, as they average 11 more points per game at home than on the road.
The Beavers are coming off their second bye week, and tight end Bryce Caufield says that the team has used it effectively.
“We just attacked working on football knowledge…just going back to the basics and making sure we’ve got all of our stuff down…We’ll be prepared for what they’re going throw at us, or at least what we think they’re going to throw at us, and we’ve got some stuff for them,” Caufield said.
The Spartans score eight more points per game at home than on the road, while giving up 11 more points per game when playing on the road.
The Beavers’ passing game has completed 61.36% of passes at Reser and 59.79% on the road.
Despite three different quarterbacks seeing playing time in their game against Cal, wide receiver Taz Reddick believes the Beavers are ready.
“I feel like we’re like ‘It’s time to go, it’s time to lock in.’ We try not to worry about the quarterback change too much. As a group, we just try to go in every drive and the goal is to score every drive,” Reddick said.
The Beavers’ passing game currently ranks 121st out of 134 teams with 6.5 yards per attempt. The running game ranks 12th with 4.9 yards per carry.
Beaver opponents average 6.04 yards per carry in Corvallis and 5.28 when OSU is playing on the road.
The Spartans complete 56.59% of their passes on the road. They average 6.97 yards per attempt on the road. Spartans quarterbacks have thrown eight touchdowns and eight interceptions on the road.
The Spartans’ defense allows opponents to complete 62.04% of their passes when playing on the road.
In addition to the game, Saturday will be a part of OSU’s Fall Family Weekend. It will include “engaging workshops, lively entertainment, campus tours, educational sessions, and other opportunities to connect with the OSU community,” according to the official page on the university’s website.
Visitors can register on the web page to receive a QR code to check in at the Memorial Union staircase. Saturday’s family weekend events run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
