The Senate Budget Committee will now be required to review budget templates before fee deliberations. The Associated Students of Oregon State University Senate passed Senate Bill 84.14, “Updated Fiscal Responsibility Act”, on Nov. 12 which details this requirement.
The bill was brought about in order to increase fiscal responsibility within the Senate.
A previous version of this article, published Nov. 15, detailed that this bill introduced new methods of fiscal analysis by the SFC. The current version makes it clear that SFC processes did not change and this bill rather affects the ASOSU SBC. The previous article has been taken off our website so as to not further share any inaccuracies.
The SFC currently reviews the budget templates annually and produces a report with their discussions of them. This bill requires the SBC to read these same reports prior to Senate deliberations on them.
