Dreams came true for three Beavers men’s soccer players Friday morning, as Enzo Newman, Sergi Solans, and Arnau Farnos were all selected in the MLS SuperDraft, continuing their soccer journeys into professional soccer.
This year’s MLS SuperDraft marks the first time in program history the Beavers had more than one first-round pick, as Newman went 11th overall and Solans went 30th. Farnos would be selected in the third round, going 84th overall. In the previous year, Logan Farrington got got picked 11th overall to FC Dallas.
The Corvallis-to-pros pipeline continues to grow for the Beavers, as the three players selected this year join a large group of former Beavers in MLS, with several OSU alumni starring for their MLS clubs this past season.
Newman, a defender selected 11th overall, will be reunited with former Beavers striker Farrington in Dallas. In his rookie season in MLS, Farrington impressed by scoring four goals with eight assists in 29 appearances.
Dallas is home to two other former Beavs as well. Tsiki Ntsabeleng, who was drafted in 2022, and has since become an important member of the FC Dallas roster after one season in Corvallis. Defender Turner Humphrey, drafted last season with Farrington, is in the FC Dallas development system, playing with North Texas SC. Humphrey spent two seasons in Corvallis, excelling in his junior season.
In a video shared on FC Dallas’s social media, an emotional Newman was welcomed to FC Dallas, saying, “You made me cry.”
FC Dallas owner Brad Hunt would say, “We’ve got a nice home for the Oregon State Beavers here…(Logan) Farrington said a few nice things about you…we are thrilled to have you a part of the FC Dallas family,” FC Dallas owner Brad Hunt in the same video on X.
After a record-breaking season with the Beavers, Solans, was picked by Real Salt Lake, a club with ties to OSU as well, as several Beavers players spent time with the RSL academy before becoming Beavers. Solans was recognized this season as the West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and finished seventh in the nation in scoring.
Farnos will travel east to join New York City FC, who drafted former Beaver Khiry Shelton in 2015. Farnos enjoyed a successful season playing up front with Solans, was chosen as the WCC Midfielder of the Year, and made 43 appearances for the Beavers since joining the program in 2022.
This path to the professional level is part of the vision for head coach Greg Dalby, who was drafted out of college himself. The results from Friday’s draft only further demonstrate Dalby’s vision.
“Proven pathway of an environment to play at the next level. I think we have that here,” in an interview earlier this season,” Dalby said.
For all three Beavers, the dream of becoming a professional has nearly been realized, although all three will have to impress in pre-season and earn a contract before the dream is officially a reality. After the incredible tenures of all three in Corvallis, Beaver faithful can only imagine them succeeding at the next level.
