The Heart of the Valley Women’s March will unite Corvallis residents in a call for justice, equality and action on Saturday.
The march begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Circuit Court, located at 120 Northwest 4th Street, and aligns with the National People’s March in Washington, D.C. happening this Saturday as well.
“Our freedoms are inalienable, and we will not allow them to be threatened,” the website states as the overall message, which aligns with the National March.
Esther Baas, the organizer of the event, said this event first occurred when President Donald Trump was elected in 2016, and was called the Women’s March, in Washington D.C.
“This march is a call to action to mobilize our people to make change in our local community and remain involved so that we can keep marching forward,” Baas said.
This year’s event will feature peaceful picketing, a march through downtown Corvallis, and a lineup of speakers addressing issues such as reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ rights, racial equality and healthcare access.
Ms. Dharma Mirza, the main keynote speaker at the event, is the President of the Mid Willamette Transgender Support Network, as well as a local activist in the Corvallis area, will be participating in the march.
Organizers are calling on individuals of all ages and backgrounds to join in advocating for these causes.
The event is family-friendly and open to all who support the causes it champions. Participants are encouraged to RSVP on the official event page for updates and further details found here.
