Editor’s note: The Daily Barometer is currently investigating claims of an alleged violation of elections rules from Dylan Perfect. We are looking to confirm this and what this would mean for his candidacy. We are also investigating if other candidates have done the same.
Dylan Perfect is running for chair of the Student Fee Committee. With years of experience in student government and labor organizing, Perfect’s platform centers on making student life more affordable.
The finish line for the ASOSU 2025 elections is fast approaching, with ballots closing on Friday, Feb. 28. Perfect has his hat in the ring to become the next chair of the SFC—a committee associated with ASOSU that makes budget recommendations for units funded by student fees.
As chair, Perfect said he would support raising wages for over 1,000 student workers employed in fee-funded units, ensure fees are allocated responsibly and advocate for underrepresented communities.
“I really do believe basic needs, services, social services, economic assistance for students, opportunities for student workers and better wages for student workers—these are all things that I’d like to see us prioritize within the fee committee,” Perfect said.
Perfect served as ASOSU Vice President during the 2021-2022 academic year and is currently an SFC member. While on the SFC, Perfect supported raising wages for students working in fee-funded units, but the motion did not pass.
Student fees rose from $505.46 per term in Fall 2023 to $527.07 per term for Fall 2024. If elected to the chair, Perfect aims to decrease fees going forward.
“The big thing that I’d like to do is make sure that we lower the incidental fee and not just continue to have this precipitous rate of increase, because I think it’s become unsustainable, and eventually we’re going to have to contend with that,” Perfect said.
Student wages, as well as subsidized tickets, were major topics of discussion in this year’s SFC meetings.
“There’s nobody in ASOSU who wanted to get rid of student tickets,” Perfect said. “If we can get the same student tickets for less money, then I think that’s good. But I’m not opposed to student tickets.”
Perfect has earned endorsements from the OSU Student Workers Union, of which he is the organizing committee chair. He also has endorsements from the OSU Palestine Solidarity Coalition, the Corvallis chapter of Young Democratic Socialists of America, College Democrats Corvallis and Sunrise Corvallis.
Perfect said he will strive to be communicative with students through feedback forums, while upholding collaborative relationships with the administration and other ASOSU representatives.
“I have had great success in the past working collaboratively on certain projects,” Perfect said in an earlier email. However, he said that it’s a misconception that student government representatives are either at odds with the administration or allied with them.
“At the same time, I also acknowledge that the interests of students and the administration are not always aligned, and I am not afraid to speak truth to power when it is necessary to fight for students,” the email said.
Perfect encourages voters to consider his track record as an SFC member.
“I bring a proven track record of fighting for these changes,” he said. “I think the endorsements that I’ve received from community organizations, that have been advocating and fighting for these issues for a long time, speaks to that.”
