The student body of Oregon State University has elected Kayla Ramirez and Masha Mogylevsky as their new president and vice president of the Associated Students of Oregon State University and Dylan Perfect for Student Fee Committee Chair.
The results, totaled by 3:33 p.m. today, confirmed Ramirez’s victory over rival tickets. Of the 1,770 total votes for the presidential ticket, Ramirez and Mogylevsky secured 58.89% of the vote. Running mate Mogylevsky will serve as vice president under Ramirez’s administration.
In their campaign, Ramirez and Mogylevsky focused on key issues including social justice, student mental health care, and worker’s rights, issues which have proved to resonate with the student body of our time. Their platform emphasized the elevation of marginalized votes, with promises to maintain transparency during their term in office.
“Today, our community stands in solidarity with each other. This win belongs to all of us—the students who refused to settle, who showed up, spoke out, and believed in something better,” Ramirez said in their victory speech, written by both Ramirez and Mogylevsky. “Now comes the hard part: holding power accountable, shaking up the status quo, and making this campus a place that actually works for us. The path to rebuilding and fostering trust and collaboration will not be easy, but we are committed to doing so. So celebrate, rest up, and then let’s get to work—because we’re just getting started.”
This year’s election saw a voter turnout of 8.99% of the eligible student body, a decrease from previous year’s election which saw a voter turnout of 16%.
Looking ahead, Ramirez and their administration are set to begin their term June 1, following inauguration, with their first priorities being to support students facing financial challenges, to support livable wages, regular cost-of-living adjustments and improved working conditions for all student workers.
Out of 1,606 votes for SFC Chair, Perfect won with 50.1% of the vote. Under his leadership, Perfect promises to put student voices first, affordable education and social services, and advocacy for social justice.
