Tickets are on sale for J-Night 2025, hosted by Oregon State University’s Japanese Student Association in the Memorial Union Ballroom on March 1.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with food service beginning at 6 p.m. and the event itself starting at 6:45 p.m., according to the event’s ticket webpage. Student tickets are $5, while general admission tickets are $7.
The theme for this year’s event is Izakaya, a type of Japanese late-night restaurant, according to the event’s webpage. In an email, Lia Mitamura, the JSA’s marketing and media manager, described izakaya as being “known for their social atmosphere and flavorful small plates.”
“We’re bringing this to life by transforming the event space to resemble a traditional izakaya, complete with authentic décor that captures the vibrant nightlife vibe,” Mitamura said. “Guests will enjoy dishes typically found on an izakaya menu, offering a taste of Japanese culture.”
The event will include food, prizes and performances from on-campus clubs and a pair of outside groups, JSA President Bryant Shitabata said in an email.
The first group, Oregon Koto Kai, is a 20-member ensemble who play the koto, a type of Japanese string instrument, according to the Oregon Koto Kai website.
Also playing will be Ahiru Daiko, according to Shitabata. The group is the Japanese drumming ensemble at the University of Oregon, according to their Instagram page.
On-campus performers will include dance teams Anomaly and Kinetic, according to Mitamura.
“This year for J-Night should be a fun, relaxing time, think of it as like going to the movies, but only $5,” Shitabata said. “You get to watch a blend of traditional and new style of traditions.”
Mitamura said that updates on the event and behind-the-scenes previews will be posted to the JSA’s Instagram page.
The JSA also has an ongoing fundraiser on the OSU Foundation website. Funds raised will go towards J-Night and other JSA events throughout the year, according to the page.
