Oregon State right-handed pitcher Ryan Brown became the second Beaver taken in the 2023 MLB draft when the Oakland Athletics selected him in the 16th round with the 466th overall pick on Tuesday.

This marks the second straight year that a Beaver has been drafted into the Athletics organization. In the 2022 MLB Draft, Oregon State right-handed starting pitcher Jake Pfennings was taken by Oakland in the 13th round.

Brown is the fifth beaver all time to be drafted by the Oakland Athletics.

Brown, the Salem, OR native, spent most of his college career as a closer.  He posted a 3.90 ERA in three seasons with the Beavers, and opposing hitters put up a .231 batting average against him on the mound. During his junior season in 2023, Brown had 34 strikeouts to just five walks in 30.2 innings of work.

The 21-year-old is a two-time All-PAC-12 conference selection, being named First Team All-PAC 12 in 2022 for his sophomore season. During his Oregon State career Brown tallied 20 saves, with 11 of them coming in 2023.
