Have you ever wondered what a festive homecoming looks like on a college campus?
This year, Oregon State University’s homecoming weekend will be taking place during Oct. 13 and 14. There will be many events hosted by the OSU Foundation and Alumni Association over the weekend.
Some of the events over homecoming weekend include alumni reunions, special access to Dixon Recreation Center, guided walks through campus and a homecoming football game against the University of California Los Angeles Bruins on Saturday.
The OSU alumni reunions will honor the classes of 1953, 1963, 1973, 1983, 1993, 2003, 2013 and 2023, according to John Valva, executive director of the OSU Alumni Association.
Access to Dixon Recreation Center will cost a $10 admission fee per person and an additional $7 for registered group classes through the weekend.
Valva said the most popular event of the weekend will be the football game, which should come at no surprise.
“At the game we will honor alumni and current students with the (homecoming) court, showing that 36,000 of us will be together cheering for the same thing,” Valva said.
This year’s homecoming events have a special addition: the solar eclipse.
On Oct. 14, a solar eclipse will be visible from Oregon to Texas around 8:00 a.m. and ending around 10:40 a.m.
The OSU alumni association is hosting a sunrise viewing event at 7:45 a.m. at the Trysting Golf Club at 34028 NE Electric Rd.
Eye protection will be provided and registration is required in order to participate in this event.
For OSU freshman and new students, homecoming weekend is a highly anticipated event with a variety of activities to participate in and a reason to branch out and discover more about your new home.
“As a student now, if you take a look at the people coming back, you could think of yourself in the future,” Valva said. “The multi-generational sensibility is what sets Oregon State apart from other universities because there’s a sense of continuity that alumni can come back.”
