Oregon State University’s recently appointed head football coach Trent Bray unveiled initial hires to his coaching staff this morning.

Kefense Hynson, who took over as interim head coach after Jonathan Smith’s departure to Michigan State, will remain with the Beavers for the 2024 season. After the conclusion of the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl, Hynson will resume his duties as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator.

Cornerbacks coach Anthony Perkins will retain his positions under Bray, too. Perkins, who enters his second season with OSU after leaving Colorado State University, helped the Beavers lead the PAC-12 in pass breakups in the 2022 season.

Beaver alumnus Ryan Gunderson (QB, 2003-07) will serve as the Beavers’ new offensive coordinator. Gunderson has spent the past three seasons as quarterbacks coach at University of California, Los Angeles. He oversaw top-10 NCAA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in 2022. The all-time program leader in total yards of offense (12,536), Thompson-Robinson was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2023.

Kyle DeVan, another Beaver alumnus, will serve as the offensive line coach. The National Football League veteran makes the trip back to Corvallis after coaching stints at Charlotte, Colorado, Michigan, Arizona and Ball State. DeVan played in Super Bowl XLIV with the Indianapolis Colts, blocking for Peyton Manning.

The first task for this new group is navigating the tumultuous transfer portal, which opened on Monday morning. They will almost certainly be searching for a new quarterback, as both DJ Uiagalelei and freshman standout Aidan Chiles have entered the portal.
