In a nearly empty Gill Coliseum the Oregon State Beavers women’s basketball team put on a dominant display of team basketball defeating the Arizona State Sun Devils 92-55 on Sunday.
With 21-degree icy weather in Corvallis, team officials decided Saturday that the game would be played without fans to keep the community safe. Even in the frigid conditions, the Beavers brought the heat.
“Coach (Rueck) said if you don’t do it with Beaver Nation, do it for Beaver Nation,” said center Sela Heide.
And with Beaver Nation supporting the team on radio and television, the Beavers shot the ball with high efficiency throughout the entire game.
Eleven of 12 Oregon State’s rostered players scored against Arizona State, as the team shot 59% in the afternoon.
Sophomore Raegan Beers led the way for the Beavers with 27 points and 15 rebounds against the Sun Devils. This was more of the same from Beers who is averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds a game in the 2024 season so far.
“The way we established ourselves in the inside-out game meant that we could go deeper (in the rotation),” said Head Coach Scott Rueck.
With 10 OSU players playing over 10 minutes, the OSU bench contributed 39 points to the teams total.
Rueck highlighted that the culture within the squad is much to blame for how well the team has gelled together not only against ASU but this whole season. .
“There is probably the healthiest competitive culture that I can remember in my coaching career” said Rueck reflecting on 14 years of being a head coach at Oregon State.
The Beavers look to build off of the success weekend when they travel to the Bay Area next weekend to play the University of California Berkeley and No. 9 Stanford University.
