Editor’s Note: In the original version of this story, Jade Carey’s 2020 gold medal event was incorrect. The event has now been corrected.
As the Olympic bar comes closer to reaching distance, Jade Carey, current Oregon State gymnast, will take her talents to Paris.
“It means everything to be a gymnast at Oregon State and to be able to represent this university on the biggest stage. This school has given so much to me and gone above and beyond to get me where I am today and I am really excited to represent the Beavers in Paris,” Carey said.
Held once every four years, the Summer Olympics brings forward each country’s representatives who went through a series of qualifiers to compete on the main stage.
Carey, who is now a junior, began her Olympic career in the 2020 Tokyo Games and scored a 14.366 on the floor exercise final, earning her a gold medal according to NBC.
Gymnastics runs in her family as her father is an assistant coach in her attempts to reach the number one spot again in the coming games.
Women’s qualifications begin July 28 to kick off the Olympics.
According to Carey, she’s excited to be a part of this special experience while competing for the Olympic team a second time, again attempting to bring a medal home.
“The most important goal is winning a gold medal and being involved in quarter-finals to bring home a team medal as well,” Carey said.
