Jade is more valuable than gold, and not just in the market.
Jade Carey, the gold and bronze Oregon State University gymnast from the 2024 Paris Olympics, was honored with a parade outside Reser Stadium in a heartwarming celebration of Olympic success and community spirit.
The festivities, held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, marked a joyous occasion for the OSU community and the fans who celebrated Carey’s incredible achievements.
The scene was festive as Carey made her way down the Ralph Miller Lane in a truck, waving to an enthusiastic crowd. The street was lined with hundreds of supporters who cheered and celebrated their local hero. The crowd was spurred on by the OSU Athletic bands, not to mention the litany of Carey’s accomplishments, which has inspired fans worldwide.
OSU’s fight song filled the air, with band members dancing as Carey made her way down the street and waved to the crowd. After the truck took a right onto SW 26th, Carey made her way to a tent and podium pitched for the event.
Reflecting on her remarkable journey, Carey expressed her deep gratitude and joy.
“Bringing home a gold and a bronze is something from my wildest dreams,” Carey said, her voice filled with emotion.
At the 2024 Olympic Games, Carey secured a bronze medal in vault while contributing to the five-member team that took home gold in the women’s artistic team all-around.
The Beaver gymnast took a moment to thank her father, whose support has been a cornerstone of her success.
“To my dad especially, thank you. Your unwavering belief in me and this team has been the backbone of my journey,” Carey said, acknowledging her father’s pivotal role in her athletic career.
Despite the celebratory tone of the evening, Carey was candid about the challenges she faced along the way.
“There were definitely days where I didn’t think I could do it,” she said, highlighting the dedication and perseverance required to reach the pinnacle of her sport. Her journey to Olympic glory was marked by intense training and personal struggles, making her achievements all the more poignant.
The parade and celebration highlighted Carey’s achievements and showcased the strong community support that has been a part of her journey.
“I’m committed to OSU for the 2025 season,” Carey declared, signaling her dedication to continuing her collegiate athletic career and contributing to the university’s gymnastics program. It was a statement met with cheers as the Beaver family certainly hope for more incredible performances from the two-time Olympian and three-time medalist.
The event provided an opportunity for fans, friends and family to come together and honor a local hero who has made them proud on the global stage.
As the parade concluded and the crowd dispersed, a sense of pride and celebration lingered in the air. Carey’s return to Corvallis and her enthusiastic reception underscores the deep connection between her and the community that has supported her throughout her career.
