Campus Counseling and Psychological Services will host their first DAM-Opoly event on Oct. 10th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Student Experience Center Plaza.
According to CAPS Mental Health Promotion Coordinator Tessie Webster-Henry, this event will feature a life-sized board game based on the famous game Monopoly, where students will be able to visit various “real estate” spots, each representing a different CAPS service or mental health practice, and meet the CAPS counselors hosting each table.
“This is the first time we have done this. Our counselors are super excited to get out of their offices and engage with students,” said Webster-Henry. “Students will get to meet a lot of our staff, learn about services and learn some proactive mental health practices they can implement right away.”
According to Kaila Labra, CAPS’ Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC)-focused student ambassador, the event is part of CAPS’ broader goal to increase student outreach.
“One of the main issues we were having was that we have so many resources at CAPS, but not a lot of students either know what they want to use it for or know where to use them,” said Labra. “I hope it will become an annual thing. We’ll see how it plays out, but I would like it to be a way for students, especially incoming students, to be able to see CAPS resources next year.”
