The 2024-25 season is almost underway for the Oregon State Women’s basketball team, with many great things to come if their strong scrimmage performance is anything to go off.

Following a historic regular season with the Beavers making an elite eight appearance, and came oh so close to making the final four, but ran into the red-hot No. 1 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks.

Soon after, an offseason of key pieces hitting the transfer portal began, which left many fans wary of the upcoming year.

Yet the Beaver’s sprites are just as high as ever heading into the new season.

The Beavers still look to aim to make another strong playoff push. Even with the many transfers, they still gained new pieces with Catarina Ferreria from Baylor and Tiara Bolden from La Salle.

With tonight’s scrimmage against the Westmont College Warriors, there were many things to display to show that the new players can mesh just as well as the former with the returning team.

The game began with back-and-forth scoring sitting at a 29-24 score at the half, the Beavers leading.

The team was nearly spotless from the free throw line being 11 of 14.

However, sat at eight of 29 on field goals and two of 13 on three-point attempts. The team was led by returning senior AJ Morette in points with six and playtime with a flat 20 minutes.

The Beavers managed to finish strong and put the game away during the second half.

Fellow returning senior Kelsey Rees led the team in scoring and rebounds for the evening, with 12 for 12, and sophomore Kennedie Shuler led the team in assists with six.

When it was all said and done, with a final score of 59-51. This gave the Beavers an early win before their regular season starts.

The Beavers were sharp from the free throw line being 16 of 22. They finished shooting from the field as a final stat line of five of 22 on three-pointers, so to break a close game habit, head coach Scott Rueck looks to improve.

The Beavers showcased great signs of what the team will look like for their new players and also displayed what to expect from their returning players as well.

They gave excitement to Beaver Nation with a pre-season win.

The Beavers welcome fans back to Gill Coliseum on Tuesday, November 12, against Northwest Nazarene University Nighthawks.
