As OSU takes time to honor the nearly 5% of its student population that has served—and is still serving—in the military this upcoming Veterans Day, there are a multitude of events and ceremonies to note on campus.
Historically OSU as the titled ‘West Point of the West’, has been known to provide an outstanding amount of support for their Active-Duty and Veteran students, which has induced the ‘Military and Veteran Resource Center’ to be renamed to the ‘Holcomb Center’ after past student John Holcomb.
Holcomb, who died in active duty during the Vietnam War, will be honored by OSU as his alma mater, and a dedication ceremony will be held this Friday at 2 pm to officiate the change in name for this resource center.
In addition to this ceremony, the inaugural ‘Beavs, Brews, and BBQs’ tailgate celebration will honor the local Veterans before the upcoming football game against San Jose State this Saturday. This event at CH2M HILL Alumni Center will include live music, brisket and pork belly prepared by four professional PNW pitmaster teams, and games for the whole family as we celebrate Corvallis Community Veterans.
Throughout this week OSU is providing opportunities for all students to share their support for Veterans and is highlighting opportunities to write cards for local vets in the Student Experience Center plaza, urging you to visit the Veteran Resource Center to stay informed on our Military community and donate to the ‘Believe It’ campaign to support current Veterans and Active-Duty students as they transition to campus.
President Jayathi Murthy also highlights the resources for Veterans this week at Snell Hall’s ‘Military and Veteran Resource Center’ to help connect to other Veterans, financial and mental health resources, and a small career fair.
On-campus students are welcome to join in on any of these celebrations of OSU’s local Veteran student community, more details and events can be found on the OSU events website.
