Letter: Students have a voice, ‘make it known’
September 14, 2018
I would like to formally welcome the class of 2023 to begin their journey at Oregon State University. This experience will be filled with changes, personal challenges, but most importantly, growth. The Beaver community is one that welcomes all and seeks to motivate students to build a better future for themselves and their peers through education and support. There are resources and people ready to help you in making the most of your student experience both inside and outside of the classroom.
Among the many resources offered on our campus, the Associated Students at Oregon State University House of Representatives are here to serve and represent the interests of all students regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender or religion. In the last year, the ASOSU House of Representatives has established a personal escort program that will continue to be expanded throughout this year. The House website is also being restructured to make legislation easily accessible to students. As we move forward with this legislative year, we will be examining how to work more closely with the Student Fee Committee to ensure that the student fee-setting process is effective and reflective of student needs.
Regardless of what issues you may face, know that your student government is here to represent your voice whether it’s through a resolution, legal support or advocacy. I strongly encourage you all to participate in monthly town hall meetings and attend the regularly scheduled House meetings held on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm in Memorial Union, Room 109. There are many opportunities to get involved with ASOSU from volunteering to running in our next student election. The strength of ASOSU is in student input and participation. You set the direction of our agenda, and you are who we serve. As a student, you have a voice—make it known.
If you have any questions about the House or would simply like to meet, please do not hesitate to reach me at [email protected]. My office is located in the Student Experience Center, Room 284.
Have a great fall term, and as always, Go Beavs!
