Since 2013, the Ettihad Cultural Center here at Oregon State University has held a cultural festival in the spring to celebrate community and diversity.
Last year’s festival, which included regional food, music, clothes and cultural performances, garnered wide attention with over 5,000 attendees, according to the Ettihad Cultural Center page.
This year’s festival will take place on May 5 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Student Experience Center Plaza.
The theme this year is World Market.
Meaning “unity” or “alliance” in many languages, Ettihad CC’s goal is to promote inclusivity for communities from the Horn of Africa, North Africa, West Asia, Central Asia and South Asia.
“A lot of the regions that we represent are known for having night markets,” Leadership Liaison Nasem Ali said. “We are going to have a few vendors and there’s going to be a calligraphy booth and a place to have henna done.”
Ali said that this is Ettihad Cultural Center’s 10th anniversary and that the festival is a great way to learn about the center and the regions and cultures they represent.
Aside from several booths, Ali said there will be games, cultural performances and free food from the restaurant Little Morocco.
