On April 25, the Centro Cultural César Chávez will be hosting a tianguis in the SEC Plaza from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The event page describes the event as “blending trade, culture and community in one lively space,”. Tianguis is a Latin American tradition, it is an open air market where visitors can barter for goods and food. It is a staple for rural hispanic communities in Latin America.
“Tacos El Machin and Pupuseria Del Valle are the food trucks we’ll have at the Tianguis! Vegan and vegetarian options will be available.” Said Arturo Robles, a member of the event’s committee.
Diversity and Cultural Engagement and the CCCC aims to bring this rich tradition and cultural event to students free of charge. Expect “fresh produce, handcrafted goods, delicious street food and the spirit of connection,”.
“If this is someone’s first open air market they should be aware that the environment may be bustling with activity and loud music, feel free to step away if you need to.” Said Robles
Vendors will be in attendance, expect to bring cash and a healthy appetite. According to the event page in addition to the vendors and food trucks providing cultural cuisine and fun there will be a surprise live music guest as well. Robles added, “The music artist will be revealed soon. Keep an eye on our social media for an update! We recommend guests bring cash to support local vendors. Be sure to bring comfy shoes as well, our musical talent will make you want to dance!“
