At the start of the game, the Oregon State Beavers baseball team found themselves trailing 2–0 after Gonzaga came out aggressively and stole home in the top of the first inning.
The momentum quickly shifted as the Beavers surged ahead to take an 8–3 lead after a long 12-inning game Monday night that ended with a Beaver win. The team woke up on Tuesday with the same mindset of getting the job done as they headed into their second matchup with Gonzaga, winning 8-3 at Goss Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Dawson Santana played a key role in OSU’s offensive momentum, driving in a run, scoring another, and executing a perfect sacrifice bunt to keep pressure on Gonzaga.
“Dawson Santana had an incredible game, did a little bit of everything, had his first beaver knock, moved a runner that didn’t end up scoring, and played the heck out of defense. He is a huge heartbeat to what we do out here,” head coach Mitch Canham said.
Santana played like a veteran today, stepping up big and leading by example on the field.
Turley made a difference on the field today by ripping a double, launching a 3-run homer to right center that blasted off the scoreboard, walking twice, scoring twice and knocking in four runs.
“As I was running the bases, I saw it go out, but we’ll see if it’s broken; I hope it is,” Turley said about his home run in the sixth inning that broke the scoreboard.
Although Turley was a massive show-stopper in today’s game, he shared love for sophomore Santana.
“Oh my gosh, love it for the kid (Santana). Unbelievable kid, an unbelievable human being, an unbelievable competitor. Whether it’s in the locker room, showing up with energy or making guys play loose and laugh. He’s always the same cat; many team members respect him,” Turley said.
The Oregon State Beavers are preparing to play a rivalry series against the University of Oregon Ducks on the road. The game will be held at PK Park on Friday at 5:05 p.m.
