Our November issue is centered on people and their stories. From students to clubs, researchers, professors and city officials, and notable alumni, we have documented a small but meaningful image of Oregon State University.
But really, every issue is centered on people because that’s what journalism is and that’s what journalism is for. Journalism doesn’t exist without people.
In light of recent election results, the people of Oregon State University deserve to have their voices heard, to have their opinions heard, to have their history shown and their dreams of what the future looks like documented.
The Daily Barometer, and Orange Media Network as a whole, aim to lift those voices. In fact, it is in our mission statement which can be found on the OMN website.
“We strive to lead the college media field by elevating diverse student voices through innovative and accessible hands-on media and leadership experiences that challenge views, build grit and engage the community. OMN also works with OSU departments, local businesses and national clients to reach our audience through advertising.”
Media is here to elevate underrepresented, hidden, diminished and all voices. Journalism exists to lift those voices and present them to the public. We exist to hold the government, and everyone else, accountable.
Echoing our September issue, The Baro has your back. We strive for factual, current, relevant coverage, and we strive to capture this community as it is. Bring us your stories, submit news tips, send us an email. We want to connect with the community we write for.
We recognize that a lot of OSU’s marginalized communities may feel threatened, scared, uncertain of the future. We recognize that as college students, our families are being divided as are our friendships. We also recognize that speaking out is scary, but The Barometer is always here to hear your ideas and thoughts.
