OSU seeks information related to attempted filming in campus bathroom
February 26, 2019
The Oregon State University Department of Public Safety is asking for information related to a reported incident of attempted filming in a Memorial Union bathroom. On Tuesday, at approximately 2 p.m., an unidentified person sought to record video of the occupant of a men’s bathroom stall on the first floor of the MU, according to a public safety alert email.
“The suspect attempting to video record was identified by a witness to be a male of Asian descent, 5 feet 6 inches tall, of slight build and was reportedly wearing a black puff coat, black pants, and black shoes with white stripes,” the alert said.
The university asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Department of Public Safety at 541-737-3010.
The alert email stated OSU is currently reviewing bathrooms on campus to determine if changes are necessary for increased security.
A university employee was arraigned in January on one felony charge of the first-degree invasion of privacy and two misdemeanor charges of second-degree invasion of privacy, after allegedly making a small hole in a men’s bathroom stall in The Valley Library and filming a man in the stall without consent.
It is not yet known if the two incidents are related.
The Barometer will provide updates as more information becomes available.
