The Benton County Sheriff’s Office reported a fatal motor accident taking place yesterday morning (Dec. 8) at 8:15 a.m. This accident resulted in the death of Laura Leong, Oregon State University assistant registrar in charge of athletics compliance.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the accident took place on Highway 99W near NE Crane Lane.

Leong was driving southbound on Highway 99W in a 2001 Toyota Corolla Coupe. The highway was covered in ice, and the Toyota crossed the center line and collided with a northbound 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, which was driven by Colin Gillin, age 59.

Medics from the Adair Village Fire Department arrived and pronounced Leong deceased. Gillin did not sustain any injuries.

“OSU was very sad to hear of this accident,” said Steve Clark, OSU vice president for university relations and marketing. “Laura’s passing makes it a very sad day for our community. We will do everything within our abilities to assist her family and coworkers following this tragic event.”

According to Clark, OSU will be able to provide additional information as available, such as dates for a memorial service or celebration of life.

“As we are made aware of more information, we will provide all the possible assistance we can,” Clark said.
