Throughout the summer, Student Legacy Park, the sand volleyball courts and multiple Dixon Recreation Center facilities will be under construction.

Current construction-caused detours and closure throughout the summer include:

  • The sidewalk on the North end of Washington Way adjacent to Student Legacy Park will be completely closed.
  • All fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and sand volleyball courts will be completely closed.

The Oregon State University Closure Notices website also notes the possibility of noise, dust and mud in the area due to the construction.

“The facility updates will better serve OSU students and all Recreational Sports members by

providing increased event and recreation flexibility while enhancing student and member

comfort,” said Brian Hustoles, associate director of marketing and communications for Recreational Sports.

The renovations to the Student Legacy Park fields include a new synthetic and cushioned turf, full size removable rugby goals on the east field, repaired fencing and resurfaced track.

According to Hustoles, the field’s renovated turf will provide a more heat resistant and sustainable field.

Basketball courts – both inside and outside – will be resurfaced while the tennis courts will get new widescreens and repaired fencing, according to the OSU Recreational Sports website.

The central plaza’s renovations will include a new shade structure and synthetic landscape turf, limiting the need for irrigation and allowing year-round use of the area.

Also receiving renovations allowing for year-round use is the sand volleyball court.

Renovations will occur on the inside of Dixon which according to Hustoles, will not prevent members from using the facility aside from multipurpose room three and the sun deck which will see renovations at this time.

“Dedicated spaces for wellness coaching and updates to the multipurpose room will enhance Recreational Sports’ ongoing commitment to students’ well-being and community and belonging,” Hustoles said about the renovations.

Renovations to multipurpose room three will include the addition of LED lighting, curtains and enhanced circulation to better serve the mind-body programming offered.

As outlined on the Recreational Sports website, the sports programs office will be renovated to create a space for head injury impact-testing among other support services. The administrative offices in room 211 will be updated to create student work spaces in addition to the wellness space Hustoles mentioned.

The sun deck area located on the south end of Dixon will be converted to a multi-use area for facility activities.

According to Hustoles, the Student Legacy Park and sand volleyball court construction is set to be completed before the start of fall term 2023, while the interior of Dixon will be completed during fall term.
