Stanford snaps Beavers’ win streak with home loss

The Friday night duel at Gill Coliseum with No. 3 Stanford flew by as the Cardinal swept the Beavers in three straight sets. 

The Beavers struggled on offense as they committed 21 attacking errors, 14 of which got blocked by Stanford. 

Stanford flourished at the net as they accumulated 14 blocks, to the Beavers three. The total tally of blocks for the Cardinal on the night tied for the second most on the season.

Amanda Burns outperformed her averages through the Beaver woes, as she produced 18 assists. She also spiked four kills, seven digs, and a dug block on the night.

The Beavers jumped out to an early set-one lead but could not hold on as Stanford rushed back into the game. Led by Kendall Kipp with five kills in the set, the Cardinal won 25-17.

Kipp, a 6 foot 5 opposite hitter for Stanford had a stellar night. She finished off 15 kills on 30 attempts without committing a single error. Kipp is ranked 19 in the nation for kills per set, averaging 4.29. She also was in eight of the 14 blocks Stanford had on the evening.

Set two seemed closer, as the Beavers held on for as long as they could, as the score was 16-14 in favor of the Cardinal. Stanford libero Elena Oglivie didn’t like how close the score was. Serving nine times in a row, Oglivie ended the set on a 9-1 run for the Cardinal. Set two ended with a score of 25-15

Oglivie had a game-high two service aces, as well as a game-leading 15 digs for the Cardinal.

Beaver opposite hitter Megan Sheridan was the team’s go-to player, as she raked in a team-high 11 kills. She was the team’s most consistent hitter, with a hitting percentage of .333.

Set three was the closest of the night. Stanford caught the Beavers off guard right away scoring six straight unanswered points. The Beavers fought back to make it close and closed the gap to three early in the set. 

No. 3 Stanford stood their ground and came out on top 25-19 to finish off the Beavers and pull off the three-set sweep. 

The Cardinal stay in Oregon as they face No. 8 Oregon on Sunday at 5:30 for a top-10 showdown.

The Beavers finish their home stand this weekend, facing the California Golden Bears on Sunday at noon in Gill Coliseum.
