3:00 P.M. update:

An individual believed to have tweeted threats of violence on campus is in Oregon State Police custody, according to an emergency notification email.

Oregon State University tweeted this morning saying it was investigating “concerning tweets”. Later, the university issued an emergency notification email explaining that the specific tweets were posts which threatened violence on the Corvallis campus.

According to Vice President for University Relations and Marketing Steve Clark, OSU does not know the identity of the user, but are actively treating the matter as a serious concern.

“At this point we have no reason to believe there is anyone on campus with weapons,” Clark said at 2:30 p.m.

Students who feel unsafe can reach the campus Department of Public Safety emergency line at 541-737-7000.

The Barometer will provide updates as more information becomes available.
