Oregon State beat Southern Utah 81-70 in a mid-day Saturday game at Gill Coliseum.
Oregon State started the game with excellent defense. The Beavers only allowed two of Southern Utah’s 10 threes to land, and they also won the three-point battle on the offensive side as well, going 7-10 with Dez White leading the way shooting 4-4 from behind the arc.
With this, Oregon State took a commanding 15-point lead to end the first half with a score of 45-30
White also led Oregon State in points with 16 and was second in assists for the half with two. Oregon State would not let up in the first half as they had the lead for the entire first half and didn’t allow for Southern Utah to even get a glimpse as there was no lead changes throughout.
White and Johan Munch led the way for Oregon State, as they dropped a combined 36 points to help lead the Beavers to the win.
“At times their offense had put us on our heels,” Head Coach Wayne Tinkle said.
While in the second half, the Oregon State offense didn’t let up as they again didn’t allow for the Southern Utah team to take a lead at all. Southern Utah did outscore Oregon State by four points with it being 40-36 in the second half. This wasn’t enough to claw back, as the Thunderbirds still fell by 14 in the end.
Southern Utah was led by Jaiden Feroah who had 27 points, along with four rebounds and five assists.
The Beavers got a lot of help on the defensive end by Munch, as well as Jorge Diaz Graham. The two put up four and three blocks up respectively, and helped anchor an Oregon State defense that handed the Thunderbirds their sixth straight road loss.
The Beavers return to play on Dec. 13 when they face off against Montana State back at Gill Coliseum.
