The Oregon State University Men’s Soccer team’s Wednesday home match against The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was canceled by a mutual decision, OSU Athletics announced Tuesday.
The Oregon State press release cited “potential for significant inclement weather” as the reason, adding that those with single-game tickets will be refunded.
According to AccuWeather, Wednesday night in Corvallis has an 89% chance of precipitation and a 24% chance of thunderstorms. The game was slated to start at 8 p.m.
The Beavers now have just two games left in the regular season, with the next coming against the University of the Pacific (3-12) at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 in Stockton, California.
The match between 9-3-2 OSU and 1-7-2 UTRGV would’ve been the Beavers’ last non-West Coast Conference game of the season. As a result, the cancellation doesn’t affect Oregon State’s chances at winning the conference.
The Beavers currently possess the top spot in the WCC with a 5-0-2 conference record, just ahead of second-place University of San Diego’s 5-1-1 mark. The full WCC standings can be viewed here.
Oregon State will face San Diego at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 at Paul Lorenz Field in Corvallis in the Beavers’ final regular season game of the year.
As the WCC won’t hold soccer championship tournaments until next year, the team with the best conference standing at the end of the 2025 regular season will be the WCC champion, earning an NCAA men’s soccer tournament automatic bid.
Oregon State men’s soccer is currently on a three-game winning streak, and the team hasn’t lost the last seven – a streak that began in late September. The Beavers were ranked No. 13 in the NCAA on Tuesday per the United Soccer Coaches poll.
As of now, the Women’s Soccer game that was set to kickoff before the Men’s at 5 p.m. is still set to be played.
