The rivalry is officially returning.
The Oregon State University Athletic Communications Office, the Oregon State Beavers and the University of Oregon Ducks have agreed to renew their football rivalry series beginning in 2028 with a four-game agreement.
The announcement officially keeps one of college football’s oldest rivalries alive after questions surrounded the future of the matchup during conference realignment changes over the last few years.
The rivalry series schedule includes:
- September 16, 2028: Oregon at Oregon State
- September 15, 2029: Oregon State at Oregon
- August 30, 2031: Oregon State at Oregon
- September 11, 2032: Oregon at Oregon State
According to Oregon State University Athletic Communications, Oregon State and Oregon have played 129 times, tied for the seventh-most-played rivalry in college football history and the second-most at the FBS level.
The rivalry has traditionally been played late in the season, but recent meetings have moved earlier in the season. The schools noted that only three previous matchups were played before November: 1937 in Eugene, 2024 in Corvallis and 2025 in Eugene.
For many fans on both sides, the return of the rivalry represents more than just another football game.
The matchup has long been one of the biggest sporting events in the state of Oregon, bringing together decades of history, memorable finishes and intense in-state competition between the Beavers and Ducks.
