For most of the season, Oregon State looked like a team destined to host postseason baseball in Corvallis and make another deep run to Omaha.
Instead, the Beavers ended their 2026 season down south off the I-5.
The NCAA Tournament bracket officially placed Oregon State in the Eugene Regional alongside Oregon, Washington State and Yale, creating one of the most intense Regional brackets in the country.
Nothing about Oregon State’s season has been simple.
The Beavers enter the postseason at 43-12 overall, ranked No. 8 nationally, but they were left just outside the Regional host line after a résumé that lacked enough elite wins and included several damaging Quad 4 losses earlier in the year.
Losses against Washington, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton and Air Force ultimately hurt Oregon State’s hosting chances.
The Beavers finished just 2-3 in Quadrant 1 games, leaving the selection committee unconvinced despite the strong overall record.
That decision now sends Oregon State into enemy territory.
And waiting there is Oregon.
The Beavers split the season series with the Ducks earlier this year.
Oregon State picked up a 10-6 win in Eugene back in March, while Oregon responded with a 7-3 win in Corvallis in April.
With the rivalry already even this season, a possible postseason matchup suddenly carries massive stakes.
Oregon State opens the tournament against Washington State, a team the Beavers also split with during the regular season.
Oregon State dominated the Cougars 18-0 in meeting one but dropped the second game 7-6.
The familiarity between all three Northwest teams creates an unpredictable Regional where almost anything could happen.
Even with the difficult draw, Oregon State still has the offensive firepower to make a serious run.
The Beavers are batting .271 as a team with an .804 OPS and 55 home runs this season. AJ Singer has led the offense with 54 RBIs and eight home runs, while Ethan Porter has produced one of the best OPS marks on the roster at 1.035.
Players like Josh Proctor, Bryce Hubbard, Paul Vazquez and Easton Talt have helped create one of the deeper lineups in college baseball.
The bigger question remains the pitching staff.
The loss of Dax Whitney still completely changes the ceiling of this team.
Before suffering a season ending UCL injury, Whitney posted a 2.00 ERA with 104 strikeouts in just 63 innings and looked like one of the best pitchers in the country.
Without him, Oregon State no longer has a true postseason ace.
Now the pressure shifts to Eric Segura, Ethan Kleinschmit and the bullpen arms to carry the pitching load through the tournament.
After a loss to the Cougars to open up their regional stay on Friday. They rebounded with wins against Yale and the Cougars in round two on Saturday and the start of Sunday.
However, game two on Sunday was a loss to the Ducks that ended their season.
A month ago, Oregon State looked like a national title contender.
Then came the injury to Whitney, the missed opportunity to host and the uncertainty surrounding the future, leaving many Beaver fans uneasy.
But with Canham and company still in the reins, their chances of counting the high level of play expected by Beaver baseball will look to remain.
