Oregon State club sports give athletes an opportunity to continue playing competitive sports or to create a space to learn new skills and build community.
Club sports at Oregon State have historically found success in their regional and national leagues. Men’s Ultimate Disc club has been to nationals the past two years and Men’s Rugby competed in the NCR 7s Nationals in DC last year.
For more information on the clubs offered at Oregon State, the OSU Recreational Sports website provides a list where interested students can sign up, as there are tons of clubs not mentioned in this article.
Women’s+ Rugby
The Women’s+ Rugby Club hope to expand on last year’s season with fresh faces.
Social Media Officer Andie Wessel emphasized the inclusivity of the club, encouraging people to join no matter their experience level.
“We offer a welcoming environment and an opportunity to play a super cool sport and get involved with awesome people!”
Practices are open to everyone, but a flexible “A-side” travel team plays games throughout Oregon and Washington.
“This year we are competitively aiming to make it to and past regionals while continuing to expand our community,” Wessel said.
Oregon State plays in the D1 Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference (PMRC) with the opportunity for tournaments at the end of the season.
The club’s open practice dates started Tuesday, Sept. 23, and are from 4-6 pm at Student Legacy Park 2, and continue every Tuesday. They also have practices Wednesdays from 6-8 pm at Prothro Field, and Thursdays from 4-6 pm back at Student Legacy Park 2.

“This year, our main goals are to continue to strengthen both the community of the team and the competitiveness,” Robison said. “Just last year we shot up over 100 places in the college rankings and are hoping to make similar growth this year!”

A club that is very versatile in its group setting, while also being able to be played indoor and outdoor is our next club, Volleyball.
Men’s and Women’s meet Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, with men’s meeting from 5:45-7:45 pm Tuesday and Thursday, and 4:45-6:45 pm on Sundays. The women meet right after, 7:45-9:45 pm, except Sunday, which is the same time as the Men’s, 4:45-6:45 pm.
Tryouts for the Men’s travel team and local team begin on Oct. 14, 2025, at the same time as usual. Those who make it through day one will be invited back on Oct. 16 to continue try outs. The Women’s side starts a week later, with their first tryout date on Oct. 21, 2025, also at their typical time slot. Same thing as the Men’s, they will welcome back the best players that tried out for day two, continuing the search for the teams.
Both clubs start meeting on Sept. 25, with everything being held at Dixon Recreation Center at the lower courts
While some clubs have tryouts later on, some get started right away, so there is no time better than the present to go search for a new club to join, and show off your skills.
