As finals come into focus, spring break follows close behind. Many students may plan on leaving, but what can students staying in town count on doing this spring break?
For students who are living on campus, all of the residence halls will be open over the break. Those staying need to sign up for break housing and let University Housing and Dining Services know they will be staying.
The only dining hall that will be open over break is the Marketplace West dining hall, but other UHDS food locations will also be open. This includes Rocket Burger, JavaStop, Bites, Cascadia Market and Cascadia Café.
More information on hours for food locations can be found at Food.oregonstate.edu.
Applications for on-campus student housing over the break can be found on the OSU Housing Portal, and will remain open until 5 p.m on March 19.
For students staying over break looking for things to do, Oregon State University and the city of Corvallis have multiple options.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Wednesday, Common Fields hosts Live Music Wednesdays, The event features local artists at their downtown location. Over the break, The event will be held on March 25.
On March 26, the Patricia Valian Reser Center for the Creative Arts will host Solas, a Celtic music group from New York, who will perform their spin on traditional Irish music. Tickets for students are $5 on the PRAx website.
OSU’s Baseball team plays on March 27, 28 and 29 against the Mercer Bears at Goss Stadium in Corvallis. The Friday game starts at 5:35 p.m., the Saturday game at 3:05 p.m. and the Sunday game at 1:05 p.m.
Also on Saturday, The Majestic Theatre hosts Laurie Kilmartin, a comedian and Emmy-nominated and Writers Guild of America award-winning writer for CONAN. This event is rated R and tickets cost $25 on the theatre’s website.
If students are looking to get in some extra study hours over their break, the Valley Library will also be open Monday through Friday with reduced hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., during the week and closed on the weekends.
More information on library hours can be found on the Valley Library website.
“It’s a quieter time on the OSU campus but know that you can still be here and we will have staff available and dining locations open for you every day,” said Brian Stroup, director of Operations and Facilities at UHDS, in an email.
If students aren’t staying on campus but still staying in Corvallis, there are many things they can do to occupy their time.
Patrick Rollens, public information officer for the city of Corvallis, said things will be “business as usual” for the week of Spring Break.
“I think there’s this perception among the student population that Corvallis shuts down in the summer and even in spring break,” Rollens said. “I would just say from the city perspective, you know, we provide public services and it really doesn’t matter when you access them throughout the year. They will be there for you.”
