The Oregon State University baseball team’s dreams of a championship have come to an end after a loss against the University of Louisville this Tuesday.
Both teams were one loss away from elimination heading into the match, with OSU beating Louisville in their previous matchup. However, it was Louisville who walked away with a 7-6 revenge win to knock out the Beavers.
After a run in the first inning, Louisville infielder Jake Munroe hit a homer to bring the score to 3-0 in the third inning. OSU infielder Jacob Krieg quickly followed that with a homer himself to score two runs in the next inning.
Louisville extended their lead, going into the ninth inning up 6-3. In their last chance to score, the Beavers fought and started to claw their way back. Infielder Aiva Arquette homered to the left, and both Gavin Turley and Wilson Weber scored as well. At the top of the ninth, the teams were tied 6-6, but the Beavers were unable to score again before Louisville went up to bat. The Cardinals scored the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly and took home the win.
OSU ended the match with six runs and nine hits over 37 at-bats. This was Oregon State’s first appearance in Omaha for the College World Series since 2018, and the first under head coach Mitch Canham.
