On Sept. 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. the Oregon State Basic Needs Center will host Circus of the Stars.
Circus of the Stars is a welcome event that students may attend to get comfortable at the Basic Needs Center. At this event there will be music, food and other students to meet and get to know one another.
The BNC is an organization on the Oregon State campus that provides students with support. Located in Champinefu Lodge, the BNC works with their student team to build community and grow the center in a fun way. Student leaders utilize their personal experience and help their peers create a plan to make it to graduation as well as find resources.
“The welcome back event will have an obstacle course, inflatables, food, photo booth, music and other organizations will be present for outreach,” shared BNC Peer Navigators, Susie and Alma.
Food offered will include churros, Auntie Anne pretzels, cotton candy and popcorn. As for the music, the BNC plans to curate a “circus themed playlist.”
When attending the events students will need to show their OSU ID card in order to check in.
At the BNC, a student may go in to ask for support regarding food, housing and financial planning. Throughout the school year, BNC hosts different workshops for students to learn from. One regular event is cooking classes offered at the center.
“It’s a great opportunity for students to visit our center and learn about our resources, build community through casual conversation and fun events,” Susie and Alma said. Students will have the opportunity to speak directly with BNC Peer Navigators at a booth during the event.
