The fatal crash investigation from Oct. 17 remains open, with jurisdiction being turned over to the county District Attorney for a decision in the case.
A Toyota RAV-4 driving westbound struck two Oregon State University students, killing one and injuring the other.
Merrick Woldridge, a third-year student studying psychology and minoring in anthropology and biology, died on the scene. The other individual faced several injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The driver, a 17-year-old female, stayed at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, according to a press release by the Corvallis Police Department on Oct. 18.
“This investigation remains open at this time, and I am not at liberty to discuss it,” Lieutenant Benjamin Harvey wrote in an email on Dec. 4.
Ryan Joslin, Benton County’s district attorney, started his role on Sept. 1, 2024, and has jurisdiction over all cases involving a fatality, the email said.
At this time, there is no information publicly released, and The Baro will continue to update as more information becomes available.
