The Student Fee Committee swore in Saegis Abbott as their chair in a meeting on Monday after being elected in a special election, ending a vacancy that lasted several months.
According to the 2025 election packet put out by the student government, the SFC chair “presides over and facilitates meetings of the ASOSU Student Fee Committee.” The chair also reports and presents student fee recommendations for the fiscal year to the student government Senate.
The SFC had been without a chair since Dylan Perfect was removed from the position in the summer of 2025.
Abbott, who was working as SFC’s Vice Chair until his election to chair, had been acting as the interim chair since October when the Senate passed a bill allowing a contingency for the SFC vice chair to do so in case of a chair vacancy.
“I joined the ASOSU Student Fee Committee because I knew funding matters,” Abbott said in a statement on the SFC webpage. “So many areas of a student’s life can be impacted by various aspects of university funding… and I want to make sure that (student fees) are used to their full potential to help support students while being mindful of the burden that large student fees put on every student who is on campus.”
To replace Abbott as vice chair, the SFC voted unanimously to elect Andrew Jenkins to the position.
According to Abbott, the vice chair assists with vote counting and tracks speaking order and time limits during SFC meetings.
The SFC will meet again to deliberate on the fee proposals on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Memorial Union 109.
Final deliberations will take place on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the same room.
Agendas and Zoom links for the meetings can be found on the SFC webpage.
