Fewer than two points separated No. 22-ranked Oregon State gymnastics from the No. 4 University of Alabama Friday night, as the Beavers fell 197.450-195.825 on the road.
In front of a crowd of 8,523 at Alabama’s Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, the Beavers posted their third-highest team score of the year so far, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Crimson Tide.
The Beavers were led by junior Sophia Esposito, who posted a 39.325 all-around score, securing a team-best 9.875 on the balance beam.
The Crimson Tide outscored the Beavers in all four categories: vault (49.125-48.900), uneven bars (49.475-48.925), balance beam (49.175-49.100) and floor (49.675-48.900).
However, on the beam, which was the Beavers’ best team performance of the night, freshman Kaylee Cheek tied a career high with a 9.850 score.
OSU is now 0-5 all-time against Alabama in gymnastics, as the two teams first played each other in 2011. Friday marked the Beavers’ worst margin of loss ever against Alabama, as well as the 2026 season as a whole.
The Beavers fall to 2-5 on the season, with three of their losses coming against ranked teams. Entering Friday, OSU was coming off a two-game winning streak and its first ranked win of the season, a 196.600-196.075 victory over No. 23-ranked Utah State at Corvallis’ Gill Coliseum on Jan. 25.
The Beavers will be on the road next on Feb. 6, taking on 4-4 Boise State University at 6 p.m.
