Suspect apprehended after fatal shooting on Highland Drive

At approximately 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, the Сorvallis Police Department was dispatched to the 1900 block of NW Highland Drive concerning a reported shooting.

According to the CPD press release, there were two women gunshot victims; one was deceased upon arrival, and the second was suffering from serious injuries. The second woman is now in stable condition at Good Samaritan Hospital. 

Officers chased the suspect, identified as 53-year-old Jerry Bruce Mitchell Sr., who fled in his vehicle and was caught around midnight in Northern California. 

Mitchell is being held in the Siskiyou, CA county jail under several charges, including possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, and a fugitive warrant, according to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office Jail Viewer website.

During the “initial response” no further threat was present to other Corvallis community members, according to CPD, and the investigation is ongoing.
